The secret of such a success lies in the production and fulfilment of the carnival costumes. The luxury of the textiles, the choice of innovative and grand materials, the harmony of colour and material make the costumes real and extraordinary works of art. Behind the scenes of this fascinating and captivating spectacle there are months and months of arduous work during which tailors, dressmakers and master craftspeople prepare these masterpieces of a thousand colours, all researched in their cut and workmanship.
Year after year, the participating associations put forward unpublished and entertaining themes; they design and plan floats in order to offer spectators moments of spectacle and delight.
More than a thousand carnival masks parade the streets of the city the Sunday before carnival, on carnival Sunday and on Mardi Gras, all to the rhythm of samba and lively music.
A play of sparkling lights and colour attracts hundreds and thousands of visitors who crowd the streets and squares of our city every year and are amazed by the competing teams. The great success of the latest carnival editions has enabled the Misterbianco Carnival to cross the Sicilian island’s shores and venture to expansive European performance circuits: an opportunity of exchange, challenge and growth.
Our costumes have been hosted by the Italian cities of Ancona, Venice, Rome, Taranto and the neighbouring island of Malta. Misterbianco’s carnival has thus become an ambassador of the Italian peninsula and an essential vehicle in terms of tourism development. Our carnival is therefore quite a real service to Sicilian tourism, a tangible sign of a city’s growth which never fails to marvel and enchant with a unique event of its own kind.
